LEED Sustainable Sites Credit: Preserving off-site forest

Obtain LEED Credit SS5 by protecting forest through Trees In Trust

Valid for LEED for Existing Buildings 2009: Operations and Maintenance
USGBC, CaGBC and CLTA approved

Trees In Trust provides a complete LEED credit service for Sustainable Sites Credit SS5. This credit, applicable both in Canada and the USA, is for "Site Development: Protect or Restore Open Habitat". Preserving and maintaining an off-site area of existing forest is a cost-effective way to gain this credit, and Trees In Trust makes this process extremely straightforward.

Trees In Trust is a member of the Canadian Land Trust Alliance (CLTA) and has been working with CLTA land trusts across Canada since 2007 to help them preserve mature forest. Trees In Trust provided its first LEED SS5 credit in 2009 and we now provide credits in Canada and the USA, for LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance 2009, Sustainable Sites Credit 5.

In exchange for a payment of $2000 per acre of forest, here is the package provided to you:

Quotation for the full cost of the credit

Natural Area Conservation and Maintenance Contract (to the LEED 2009 specification)

Receipt

Certificate of forest dedication

URL to show the protected area of forest on an interactive map

Mention of your donation on our website

There are no additional charges, the initial cost covers all maintenance and inspection as specified by the LEED 2009 documentation.

The minimum cost is $2000.

Canadian buildings being certified through the CaGBC must be within 800km of the respective natural area. Right now that allows us to offer this credit in the southern half of Ontario, the southern half of Quebec, the Maritimes, Newfoundland, Saskatchewan, most of Alberta and Manitoba. See a map here. There is no such requirement for USGBC (USA) certification.

Drop us an e-mail and we will do the rest for you. Simple as that!
